Designers will play critical roles in the success of our rebounding economy—both as agents of social change in a complex world and as leading architects of sustainable solutions for a troubled planet. You'll hear speakers from diverse disciplines who work in a variety of media discuss designing for the economy, environment and culture. New Assistant Professor in Sculpture (Fall 2003)
Welcome to Karyn Olivier, Assistant Professor in Sculpture.

Dr. David Jacobs has been awarded a Fulbright fellowship and will be conducting research on Chinese photography and culture and teaching at National Taiwan University during the 2003-2004 academic year.

Pat Deeves, Assistant Director of the Art Department was chosen as the recipient of the 2002-2003 McElhinney Award, the highest award given to
a staff member at UH.

New Chair + Associate Chair: Spring 2003
Effective in the Spring 2003 semester, Professor Gael Stack will serve as Chairperson of the Department of Art. An active professional artist with an extensive exhibition record, Professor Stack holds the rank of full professor. She is a member of the painting faculty and a John and Rebecca Moores Scholar.

Professor Suzanne Bloom is now serving as Associate Chair. Professor Bloom is known internationally for her ground breaking work in digital media and with Ed Hill exhibits as MANUAL.

Former Chair W. Jackson Rushing now teaches and does research as a member of the art history faculty.
